TWO THIEVES

Two convicts imprisoned on a desert island in the 1920's reflect on what they're looking forward to if they are ever freed.

EXT. DESERT - DAY

JOHN MARX (30’s) and PETER STOWE (30’s) sit on a dirt mound. There clothes the same color as the dirt underneath their butts. A tiny bushel patch of Green is the only thing that shields them from the suns rays completely toasting them.

Each of them share a half a BREAD ROLL as they gaze into the distance where all that can be seen is the refraction of smoldering sand.

MARX

The last time I saw my little girl she was 18 months. That was 4 and a half years ago. The first thing I’m going to do when I get back home is take her fishing.

STOWE

Why fishing?

MARX

Because the biggest promise my Father ever made to me was to teach me how to fish. You know how many times he took me?

Stowe shakes his head.

MARX

Zero. The first day I was sent to this hell hold I made an internal promise that I’d teach my daughter all the things my father never taught me and that is a promise that I intend to keep.

He takes a bite of his role.

Stowe gives him a nod of respect.

STOWE

I met my ex wife on an excavation through India. On our first date she made for me some homemade mutton that tasted so good going in that it was worth the burn it gave you on its way out. When I get back home the first thing I’m going to do is have her make me a batch that’s tasty enough to cause hemorrhoids and then convince her to marry me again.

The two men share a laugh.

STOWE

That’s the thing about living in hell. It makes you appreciate the earthly things you neglected.

MARX

Amen to that brother.
