WHAT'S YOUR STORY

A music producer tries to get a musician with a troubled past to open up before they begin writing and recording a session.

TREY HOWARD

So what’s your story?

ONYX JANE

Why do you want to know my story?

TREY HOWARD

Because we’re about to record an album together. How am I supposed to produce your truest album if I don’t know who you are?

ONYX JANE

This is my third album. The two producers before you were able to produce with me without knowing who I was.

TREY HOWARD

True and your other albums were really good but they won’t be close to as good as this one will be.

ONYX JANE

Why’s that?

TREY HOWARD

Because this will be the one where your fans get to really connect with you.

ONYX JANE

You think me telling you my life’s story will help my fans who have followed my journey for the last few years. Connect better with me?

TREY HOWARD

I don’t think so. I know so.

She contemplates.

TREY HOWARD

Here let me play something for you.

He cues up a song on his computer and plays it.

Its MARRY J BLIDGE’S single. IF YOU LOOK AT MY LIFE.

The two vibe out and listen.

Onyx more importantly allows the words to enter.

ONYX JANE

I was born in LA but I grew up a little bit of everywhere. My dad was in the army so we moved around a lot. I knew my Mom but we never really had a relationship. Her and her priorities moved her in one direction and pushed me and my father to move in an opposite direction.

TREY HOWARD

That must of been hard.

ONYX JANE

Yeah but I don’t know what’s been harder. Her telling me how much she didn’t need me when I was younger or her popping up from time to time telling me how much she needs me now.

TREY HOWARD

Needs you as in financially.

ONYX JANE

Yes.

TREY HOWARD

Where was your favorite place to live?

ONYX JANE

Japan for sure. All the bright lights, all the energy that city has with its billon’s of people I loved it. That was what inspired me to become a musician. I was chasing the looks of those lights and chasing the attention of all of those people. I had this dream of one day freezing the entire city by grabbing all of there attention, having it focus on me. All the lights of the city behind, in front and on the sides of me. Every glance locked onto me and me getting to perform in front of everyone.

TREY HOWARD

A billion people.

ONYX JANE

Yeah. A billion people that’s the goal. Could you imagine?

TREY HOWARD

Well now instead of just making an album now we have a game plan. And that plan is to create music that will capture the attention of a billion fans.

She ponders on his words, she can visualize them. We can see her excitement rising and her mind thinks.

ONYX JANE

Yeah. I feel that.

They share a smile and the same vision.
